THE IDEAL HOME IS THE ONE THAT YOU CAN’T HAVE YET
Since I work in the interior design field I feel compelled to explain each stylistic decision I take or advise. While I can do this with a certain aisance for my clients, when it comes to my own house things complicate dramatically. I might be indeed easier to turn to an interior designer myself, had I not be such a hopeless control freak.
In the course of time, I reached the wisdom of 3 rules that I ought to take into consideration when decorating my own home.
I. A house is never finished. It’s a living organism, in perpetual change. Since it somehow reflects the status and nature of things in our private life, the way it looks resembles a psychological x-ray of us at a certain time. I’m saying this because I’m obsessed to see things finished.vezi tot articolul
II. The overwhelmingly creative design rapidly outdates. In the long run, in case I don’t plan to turn my house into a showroom, I must restrain my avant-garde ambitions and opt for more quiet objects and materials. I put down this rule because I have the annoying tendency to push things much too far, which would eventually turn my house into a scientific experiment rather than something really comfortable.
III. Human disorder is necessary. Even if most of the magazines promote a clinical austerity through perfectly ordered and clean spaces, in reality the excessive minimalism is as tiring as exaggerated clutter. I added this rule because I’m manic about order, constantly imagining a perfectly gray house with white and brown accents. I’ve recently lived in an all-white apartment, In 3 days I couldn’t stand it and in 6 days I hated it dearly.
